Two North Suburban Special Olympics Bocce Teams Advance to State Following Regional Tournament Cancellation

Heavy rains forced the cancellation of last Saturday’s Special Olympics Wisconsin Regional Bocce and Softball Tournament, preventing athletes from competing after weeks of practice and preparation.

Although the cancellation was disappointing, all athletes should be proud of the hard work, determination, and commitment they demonstrated throughout the season. Despite challenging weather conditions that affected practices all summer, every team was prepared and ready to compete.

In accordance with Special Olympics Wisconsin procedures, all qualifying teams were entered into a random lottery to determine which teams would advance to the 2026 Special Olympics Wisconsin State Tournament.

While the North Suburban Special Olympics softball team, NS Sparks, was not selected to advance this year, North Suburban Special Olympics is proud to announce that two of its five bocce teams have earned spots at the 2026 Special Olympics Wisconsin State Tournament.

Congratulations to Our State-Qualifying Bocce Teams

Bengals

  • Lynn Carus
  • Austin Joniaux
  • Michael Thiel
  • Michael Wing

Westies

  • Andrew Dalin
  • Rachel Frank
  • Matthew Hanrahan
  • Melissa Krutna
  • Anthony Porter

Advancing to the State Tournament is a tremendous accomplishment, and these athletes have earned the opportunity through their dedication, teamwork, and perseverance. They will proudly represent North Suburban Special Olympics as they compete against some of the best athletes from across Wisconsin.

While only two teams will continue on to State, every athlete who trained, practiced, and prepared for the Regional Tournament is a winner. Their commitment, positive attitude, and sportsmanship are what make North Suburban Special Olympics such a special program.

North Suburban Special Olympics extends its heartfelt congratulations to the Bengals and Westies and sincere thanks to every athlete, coach, volunteer, family member, and supporter who helped make this season a success. Despite weather challenges that affected much of the season, our athletes continued to show resilience, determination, and teamwork every step of the way.

Please join us in congratulating our State-bound bocce athletes and wishing them the very best as they prepare to represent North Suburban Special Olympics at the 2026 Special Olympics Wisconsin State Tournament. We know they will make our entire program proud!
