Attendance/participation in the District Competition is mandatory for all sports.  If you do not attend the District Competition, you will not advance to state; if you are doing a team sport, you will not advance even if your team advances, nor will you remain on the team roster for the rest of the sports season.   If a team does not advance, practices will continue as normal for all players.

USA GAMES are almost here!

We are proud of all of our athletes, coaches, families, friends and all supporters.  This year we have extra kudos to those participating in the USA Games in Orlando Florida, the first week of June:

Athletes – Cathy Hanin (bocce), Carolyn Kiewit (bowling) and Dan Zalewski (bowling).

Coaches – Micheal Mentzel (bowling), Bob Selingo (swim) and Kevin Szydel (bocce).

GO TEAM WISCONSIN!

Spring and Summer Sports Updates

With SOWI changes in schedule this year (some changes due to COVID and some because of the timing of the USA Games), we had different Spring and Summer schedules (hopefully to return to normal after this summer).  With the variations, we had only athletes doing the sports for competition in spring and will continue that policy this summer.  There is NO Summer games at Stevens Point this year; swim and track will have competition at the same tournament as Softball, Bocce and Tennis on July 30-31st at Carroll University in Waukesha.

We are ALWAYS proud of our athletes and the good sportsmanship that they show – win or lose.  We appreciate that they do the best job that they can.

Swim, Track, Bocce, Softball and Tennis will be the sports in State competition on Saturday-Sunday, July 30-31.  Yes, all 5 sports.  Athletes can only compete in ONE sport in that competition, and therefore practice in only the one sport this summer.

  1. Soccer had one team this year with a shortened season the State competition was held on May 14th.  Congrats to the Division 2 Gold medalists = North Suburban Cougar Kits.  A winning combination of players from both the Cougars and the Kit Kats did themselves proud.  The soccer season has ended for this year.
  2. Swim had fewer swimmers than in prior years – but they’ve done great.  The District competition was held April 30th.  We follow SOWI rules on selection of athletes for state competitions and, as have not yet received our quota number attendance at state.  Athletes who qualified in at least one event, will continue practicing swimming for the months of June and July.  We will contact all swimmers once we have the quota and can make the final selection.  PRACTICES WILL BE AT NICOLET HIGH SCHOOL FOR THE MONTHS OF JUNE AND JULY, on Tuesdays at the same time as the regular season.
  3. Track & Field (Athletics) was also down in numbers but we were pleased with everyone who came.  Our weather has been as usual – some iffy and some not so good days; we greatly appreciate those hardy souls who showed up in the cold and wind!.  The District Athletics competition May 14th. Athletes who qualified in at least one event, will continue practicing track for the months of June and July.  We will contact all track athletes once we have the quota and can make the final selection.  PRACTICES WILL BE AT NICOLET HIGH SCHOOL FOR THE MONTHS OF JUNE AND JULY, on Tuesdays at the same time as the regular season. (note the evening change)

For athletes not competing in track or swimming, the choices are listed here.  Only those competing and able to make all the tournaments will be eligible to practice this year (athletes must be available for all, including state, even though we won’t know until later which teams qualify for state).  We need responses as soon as possible, as we hope to accommodate all who are interested, but with limits on numbers per team, we may have to ask some to make secondary choices.

GENERAL

Drivers:  Please remember to be on time to pick up your athlete(s) at the end of each practice and make sure that the athlete joins the practice when dropped off.

As a reminder, we do not call athletes/coaches when we cancel due to bad weather.  Some years are better than others, and there are times that facilities are not being available for reasons other than weather – and, unfortunately, often at the last minute – so it never hurts to call anyway – we appreciate it.  In the event of bad weather (rain, snow, or extreme heat/cold), you should check the Hotline prior to the practice start time to see if practice has been cancelled.  We try to update the hotline about 45 minutes before practice.  For example, if practice starts at 6:00pm, a message will be on the Hotline about 5:15pm.  This means that athletes should not call their coaches to check to see if practice is cancelled.  We will continue to try to reach all athletes and coaches for practice cancellations that are NOT weather related, but it is still a good idea to listen to the Hotline just before you leave for practice, because it is not always possible to reach everybody – such as unexpected pool problems or muddy ground/wet track at Brown Deer.  A light rain may not cancel a practice as competitions are held even in a rain.  A general email will be sent out if there is sufficient time.
