We will NOT have a bus this year – please plan your ride and be aware of travel/parking time needed.  Bocce and softball teams play on both days, and almost all track and swim athletes also compete on both days; schedule information is included with this information.  You may leave the site after you are done competing, make sure you tell your coach that you are leaving.

District Tournament Results

Congratulations to all!  You did yourselves proud.  Great playing and great sportsmanship.

The softball team, Sparks, took first place and will advance to the state games.

The bocce team, Tabbies, played well and we are proud of them, but they do not advance.

The bocce team, Tuxedos, also played well and did a great job.  They took 2nd place and were selected in the lottery, so will advance to the state games.

So – mark July 30th-31st on your calendars.  The above teams along with those swimmers and track athletes who are also advancing to state.  Bocce, softball, track and swim competition at state will be on both days, so keep both days free.  State is at Carroll University in Waukesha, and we will send out schedule as soon as they are available.

Good job all!

There will be no bus this year; please arrange your ride.  Plan on being at Heritage Park 30-45 minutes before your first game – game times can change.   Hot or rainy weather may also affect the schedule.

Any updated competition information will be on the Hotline – 414-327-1016.

Directions:  we will send out any directions after we receive them.  One of the recommended routes was HWY 167 off of I41/45 (towards Holy Hill).  However HWY 167 is being closed long term on July 11th.  Hopefully we will receive the best routing info.

Uniforms:  Softball  – if possible, wear your own shorts, as this will save time in changing.

Bocce – wear your own black NSSO shorts and white NSSO t-shirts – the short and shirts with the shield   design.   You may wear slacks if you prefer.

Heritage Park is a new venue this year – we are unsure of the convenience of the changing area. After your last game/awards, change out of the uniforms provided and return the attire to the appropriate container.

It is important that each athlete bring the following items marked with their name and 8‑02

*     The black North Suburban duffle bag (or equivalent) to put your clothes in after changing into your uniforms.  Put a name tag on your bag.

*     Sunglasses, sunscreen and/or bugspray.   (rain gear depending on the forecast)

*     A refillable water bottle with athlete’s name on it.

*     Softball – The North Suburban red baseball hat, if you have one (no hat with any logo can be worn).

*     Softball – Baseball glove (each athlete should have their own) and bat, if you use your own.  Your sport bag should also have a name label; do not go thru any other person’s bag.  NSSO equipment is in it’s own bag, and a coach can help you find what you need.

Food may be purchased at the concession stand, or bring any snacks or meal that you will want – there is no free lunch.

We have no information available but assume that here are some bleachers at the diamonds, and no seating available near the bocce courts.  It is recommended that you bring your own lawn chairs.

Remember that attendance and participation at this District tournament is mandatory to advance to state with the team if it advances and to continue to practice with any team that advances .  Practices for all teams will continue the rest of the softball season even If a team does not advance to state.

NSSO – Swim and Track Athletes – State Games

Congratulations to all athletes who competed at the April District Swim or the May Regional Athletic competitions.  Everyone did their best effort and we were proud of all.

The delay in sending out results has been predominantly based on the fact that we wanted to be able to report on who is advancing to the State Celebration Games on July 30-31st in Waukesha at Carroll University.  (Tennis, bocce and softball state games are the same weekend)

With the quota system, we are generally unable to have all that qualified advance to state; we are limited in the quota number that we receive.  Sometimes we can request – and get – additional quota, sometimes not.  And that’s what happened this year.  We received extra space for swim, but not for track.  The names listed below are advancing to the state games and will continue to attend the practice sessions thru the end of July.  The athletes who competed, but for whom we are unable to take to state, should choose their preferred summer sport = some do bocce, some do softball, and maybe even tennis.

Swim – the athletes who are entered for the State Celebration Games are: John Avery; Lynn Carus; Yan Chen; Christine Cherne; Cooper Collins; Brian Glenn; Carrie Krutina; Melissa Krutina; Jacob Nowak; Jennifer Onufrock; and Kim Raatz.

Athletics/track – the athletes who are entered for the State Celebration Games are: Michelle Buchanan; Tim Canaday; Creed Grams; Cathy Hanin; Matthew Hanrahan; Michael Lunz; Jeff Strelow; and Tim Vola.

Info (schedule, etc) will be distributed after we receive it – probably not much before a week before the games.

Congrats to all!

Important Dates to Note

UPCOMING DATES – 2022 – MORE SPECIFIC INFORMATION WILL BE AVAILABLE CLOSER TO THE DATES; most practice dates are NOT included here.  Due to fewer competitors, we are not planning on having a bus to Muskego for the track/soccer competitions.  If you are willing to help with a carpool, please let Kevin or Linda know.

SOCCER

April 13th – outside practice at Brown Deer High/Middle School – weather permitting

April 20th – inside at Academy; games vs Team Milwaukee

July 30-31st – state competition; Carroll University, Waukesha

Winter Sports Update -Monday, February 14, 2022

NO team basketball, skills or snow this year

I don’t believe this is unexpected news.

While COVID numbers have, thankfully, been decreasing substantially and quicker than originally expected – it was not soon enough to salvage Team Basketball, Basketball Skills, or Snowshoe racing (although snowshoe racing needs more snow and less COVID as well).

So we thank all who patiently waited for the hoped for weekly call about the sports – the waiting is over.

There will be NO Team Basketball this year, no Snowshoe racing and no Basketball Skills.  We await the 2023 season.

There are still COVID protocols to follow – SOWI, facility and governmental – and these will affect the upcoming sports season.

Winter Sports Update – Thursday, February 4, 2022

There will be no practices until further notice.

We are pleased that the COVID numbers are coming down across the state, but the county numbers are not yet within the range allowed for Special Olympics activities.  So, probably as no surprise, there will be no practices until further notice.  This would be no team basketball, no basketball skills and no snowshoeing (of course, we’d prefer snow for that anyway.)

Also at this time, we have to admit that we are uncertain whether we will be able to start swimming this month as we normally would.  With COVID numbers still up and we are waiting to hear from Brown Deer school about what new guidelines they have put into place since this latest surge.  There are also SOWI guidelines about crossing county boundaries with differing county COVID numbers.  Sorry, but assume no swimming practices until we pass on the word that we are good – when we can, we should be back on Tuesday’s at Brown Deer High/Middle School.

Hope for the best – we hope to continue in this trend towards improvement.
