The weatherpeople are still talking rain on Saturday. We know Wisconsin – that could mean rain or it could be dry – we’ll find out,
It depends on Team Milwaukee (tournament heads) to determine the fate of the invitational due to weather and grounds conditions . Light rain, etc means dress for the weather, but, like district tournaments, the tournament could continue.
Team Milwaukee )TM) will update their Weather Hotline on Saturday, based on need. To get that current information – call that Hotline, NOT the North Suburban hotline.
The number is 414-475-8192. The information should be updated about 7:00am on Saturday the 19th.
LindaB & Kevin
Wick Field – 4929 W. Vliet
There WILL NOT be a bus for this tournament. You must be on site no less than 35 minutes before your first game. Don’t forget that schedule changes may occur on the 19th as the schedule adjusts during the day as games go faster, heat, etc. If it’s hot, all games may be pushed forward or shortened. There is no rain date – the NSSO Hotline (414-327-1016) will have any cancellation information as soon as received, if necessary. TM will update their hotline if there are serious weather conditions 414-475-8192.
Softball = It is recommended that you wear your own black NSSO shorts as this will save time and effort as changing facilities are minimal at Wick Field. Also don’t forget a hat, sunscreen, whatever other clothing and/or weather accessories needed. There is also limited seating, so bringing a chair is acceptable.
BOCCE Remember – wear closed-toe shoes, no open shoes/sandals allowed. Rule for bocce – if multiple team members wish to wear a hat (not required) – all who wear a hat must wear the same hat; a hat will be available. Bocce teams – talk to each other to make sure that all members of the team are wearing the SAME SHIRT [white or either black/red shirt); NSSO black shorts are recommended, but are not required; wear preferred shorts or slacks, but NO blue jeans. Spectator seating will be available on the artificial turf, but you will need to bring your own chair, no bleachers will be available.
There will be NO food vendor. Team members / spectators should bring any food, beverages, needed. Bringing your own water bottle is recommended – remember to keep hydrated. Bocce will be played on artificial turf, so NO food is allowed on the field area near the competition field and the only beverage allowed is water (by spectators or athletes).
Each of the teams will play at least two games and all games will follow Special Olympics rules. Since the emphasis of this tournament is on fun and competition (required games for district), no awards will be given.
All players and coaches must turn in a signed waiver before playing.
Family members and friends are invited to come and cheer for their teams. Lawn chairs, blankets, coolers are all acceptable and may even be necessary for yourself and any spectators (there are no bleachers, etc., for bocce spectator seating (which will be on the artificial field area) and limited seating anywhere). Parking is very limited at Wick (handicapped only) or the street – parking is behind the MPS administrative building just to the west of Wick Field; there is a sidewalk from that parking lot to the main area for the invitational. Please remember that no pets are allowed on the grounds.
